My First Trip to Europe:

Day 1: Arrival in London and Exploring Battersea Park

Stepping off the plane in London, I was filled with excitement and anticipation. I took the train from the airport to my AirBnB. My first stop in Europe had to be somewhere relaxing yet quintessentially British—so I made my way to Battersea Park, a stunning green space along the River Thames. This historic park, known for its tranquil lakes, lush gardens, and hidden gems, was the perfect place to unwind after my long flight. My AirBnB looked like something from the old television show Good Times (ghetto) but turned out to be a nice place.

Why Start at Battersea Park?

Battersea Park offers a serene escape from the bustling streets of central London while still providing stunning views of landmarks like Battersea Power Station and the Thames. Walking through its scenic trails, I admired the Victorian-style gardens, visited the Buddhist Peace Pagoda, and even stopped by the Battersea Park Children’s Zoo, a delightful attraction for visitors of all ages.

Evening: A Taste of London’s Pub Culture

No visit to London is complete without experiencing its legendary pub culture. I had to get a selfie with a Telephone Booth. I headed to a historic British pub near Battersea, where I indulged in classic fish and chips alongside a pint of local ale. The warm, inviting atmosphere and friendly locals made for a fantastic introduction to the city’s social scene. I definitely had to get use to the proper English accents.

Day 2: Iconic Landmarks and a River Thames Tour

Waking up refreshed, I was eager to dive into the heart of London’s historic attractions. My itinerary was packed with must-see sites, beginning with a tour of Buckingham Palace, where I witnessed the Changing of the Guard ceremony, a truly iconic British tradition.

Exploring Westminster: Big Ben, Westminster Abbey, and the Houses of Parliament

A short walk from Buckingham Palace led me to Westminster, home to some of London’s most famous attractions. Big Ben, standing tall above the Houses of Parliament, was a breathtaking sight, and I couldn’t resist snapping photos of its majestic architecture. Nearby, Westminster Abbey, the site of royal coronations and historic events, was a must-visit for any history enthusiast.

Day 3: A Day Trip London

To make the most of my first trip to the United Kingdom, I had to come back. This was only the first leg of my trip, and I was off to Amsterdam and Greece as part of the overall package. Part 2 of my trip will be another story as I spent another 3 days in the UK after returning from Greece. I had myself a little breakfast before catching the train to the airport to begin another journey.

England’s rich heritage is also reflected in its castles, such as Windsor Castle, the oldest and largest inhabited castle in the world, and Warwick Castle, which offers a glimpse into the country’s medieval past.
